Elections at Umhlabuyalingana went well on the 22 April 2009.
Almost all the political parties were satisfied the way elections have been conducted at Umhlabuyalingana. The Anc deployed Mtholephi Mthimkhulu and Kzn MP Ms Ludidi to observe. Old Ladies were the happiest shortly after casting their votes. The only obstacle that stopped people from voting was the fact that the local loan sharks withheld ID documents for some voters who are owing them. We had 15 potential voters who were sobbing due to the fact that they did not vote due to that reason.
Omunye waba voti osekhulile wesifazane uzwakale ethi yena ufuna ukuvotela imbuncula (uMsholozi bandla). The attitude of the older people here at Umhlabuyalingana has radically changed, most of them voting for the ANC. This really prooves beyond reasonably doubts that the Anc is here to stay. IFP has just became an underdog. The IFP must now work hard to convince the people here at Umhlabuyalingana to vote for them. This has also been aggravated by the fact that 3 million rand has been spent unaccounted for by IFP led Umhlabuyalingana Municipality. This might lead to its fatal end of the IFP at Umhlabuyalingana.
